Zamboanga City — The Philippine Navy celebrated its 127th founding anniversary with a meaningful public engagement activity at SM City Mindpro, underscoring its vital role in defending the nation’s archipelago while strengthening ties with the community and the private sector.

Anchored on the theme of service, valor, and patriotism, the Navy led a bloodletting drive in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, encouraging mallgoers and civic-minded individuals to take part in a life-saving initiative. The event, which also featured a static and kinetic display of naval equipment and audiovisual exhibits, drew in hundreds of visitors who were eager to show support and learn more about the Navy’s mission.

As the country faces complex maritime security challenges, the Philippine Navy remains at the forefront of safeguarding our territorial waters and ensuring national sovereignty. The Navy’s continued presence and engagement in local communities highlight its commitment not only to defense but also to humanitarian efforts.

Rear Admiral Xerxes Trinidad, Commander of Naval Forces Western Mindanao, emphasized the importance of public support in their mission. “This anniversary is not only a celebration of our history but a reaffirmation of our duty to the Filipino people. Through partnerships like this, we bring the Navy closer to the heart of the community.”

The event also showcased the dynamic cooperation between the public and private sectors. SM Supermalls, through SM City Mindpro, played a pivotal role in hosting and promoting the Navy’s initiatives. By opening its space for such civic activities, the mall contributes to fostering a sense of nationalism and awareness among the public, particularly the youth.

“SM Supermalls is honored to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines. We believe in the importance of unity and awareness in promoting national pride,” said SM Mindpro Mall Manager, Engr. Constantine D. Yambao. “This is our way of honoring our modern-day heroes and encouraging the community to be part of the nation’s greater cause.”

The Philippine Navy’s 127th anniversary celebration stands as a reminder of the sacrifices and service of the men and women in uniform. As the nation navigates through modern-day challenges, the spirit of nationalism — strengthened by the cooperation of institutions like SM Supermalls — remains vital in preserving peace, sovereignty, and unity.
