Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City – Authorities successfully recovered a cache of explosives and ammunition believed to be owned by the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in San Luis, Agusan del Sur, following a tip from a concerned citizen. The operation took place on Thursday, February 27.
Personnel from the San Luis Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (PECU), conducted the retrieval operation in Barangay Nuevo Trabajo. Among the items recovered were an improvised explosive device (IED), a grenade, a rifle rigged with a booby trap, and several rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition.
The recovered explosives and ammunition were promptly turned over to the Agusan del Sur PECU for proper documentation and safe disposal.
Police Brigadier General Christopher N. Abrahano, director of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO13), assured the public that the seized materials would be handled appropriately to eliminate any potential threats to public safety. He also emphasized the police force’s commitment to intensifying operations against insurgent groups to maintain peace and order in the region.
“The successful operation is a testament to our dedication to keeping communities safe. We will not relent in our efforts to prevent the CTG from disrupting peace in the region,” Abrahano stated.
He also lauded the efforts of the civilian informant whose timely information led to the discovery of the hidden explosives and ammunition. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement to help maintain security in their communities.
