March 20, 2025 – Brgy. Kamasi, Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur – The 601st Infantry (UNIFIER) Brigade continues its initiative to strengthen ties with members and leaders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) through a consultation meeting held by the 33rd Infantry (MAKABAYAN) Battalion at its headquarters in Brgy. Zapakan, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur.



The meeting served as a vital platform for reinforcing peace initiatives and addressing community issues and concerns. It also focused on discussing the current state of violence within the area of responsibility.
Key representatives from MILF and MNLF attended the meeting, including Basco Katua, Assistant Administrator of the 106th Base Command, MILF-BIAF, and Enrile S. Atuan, Administrator of the Southern Mindanao Command of the MNLF. Also present were Esmail “Mike” Sambolawan, Brigade Commander of MNLF-Southern Mindanao Command, and Datu Ila Utto, who shared their perspectives and recommendations. They emphasized the need for understanding and cooperation among all involved groups.
According to Brigadier General Edgar L. Catu, commander of the 601st Brigade, the meeting underscored the crucial role of MILF and MNLF commanders in maintaining peace and security in the region. He urged their continued support in fostering stability and encouraged all stakeholders to avoid any illegal activities. He highlighted the importance of strong relationships between the military and local leaders in preserving the peace process.
“We welcome this opportunity to engage in a peaceful and constructive dialogue with our MILF and MNLF counterparts,” BGen. Catu stated during the meeting.
Through collaborative efforts such as this consultation meeting, the goal of achieving lasting peace and development in the region remains a priority. The ongoing dialogue between military and local leaders continues to pave the way for a more secure and progressive future for Maguindanao del Sur.
