March is designated as Fire Prevention Month in the Philippines, a time dedicated to raising awareness about fire safety and disaster preparedness. Spearheaded by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), this annual observance aims to educate the public on fire prevention measures and emergency response protocols to mitigate fire-related incidents.

In line with this advocacy, SM City Zamboanga actively participated in the Simultaneous Nationwide Fire Drill earlier this morning. The initiative, conducted in partnership with BFP Zamboanga, gathered a total of 148 participants, including tenants, employees, and mallgoers, all taking part in the crucial fire safety exercise.
The fire drill was meticulously executed, simulating real-life fire scenarios to test the effectiveness of emergency response teams, evacuation plans, and fire suppression systems within the mall premises. The participants were guided through proper evacuation procedures, assembly points, and the correct use of fire extinguishers. The activity also underscored the importance of swift coordination between mall personnel and local fire authorities in ensuring public safety.
BFP Zamboanga personnel commended SM City Zamboanga for its commitment to fire safety and disaster preparedness. Through drills like this, both business establishments and the general public gain valuable hands-on experience in handling fire-related emergencies, ultimately contributing to a more fire-resilient community.
As Fire Prevention Month continues, authorities encourage everyone to remain vigilant and proactive in fire safety measures. Simple practices such as checking electrical wiring, avoiding overloading outlets, and keeping fire exits unobstructed can prevent potential fire hazards. With continued public cooperation and initiatives like the nationwide fire drill, the goal of reducing fire incidents across the country remains achievable.
SM City Zamboanga’s participation in this endeavor highlights its role not only as a commercial hub but also as a responsible partner in promoting safety and emergency preparedness. Through collective efforts, communities can work together to uphold fire safety and protect lives and property throughout the year.
