Four city government departments have been awarded the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) Seal for their outstanding efforts in energy efficiency and conservation in 2024. The City Civil Registrar’s Office, City Legal Office, City Treasurer’s Office, and City Budget Office were recognized for their exemplary adherence to energy-saving measures, reinforcing the local government’s commitment to the national GEMP advocacy.
Under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe, the local government has strongly supported the national government-initiated GEMP, which seeks to reduce electricity consumption in public offices through efficient energy use and conservation. Certified energy auditors conducted assessments, identifying these four offices as the city departments with the lowest energy consumption for the year.
As part of their recognition, the awardees each received the prestigious GEMP Seal, with the top three energy-efficient offices also receiving cash prizes. The awarding ceremony took place on Friday afternoon at the City Hall conference room in simple rites organized by the city’s Energy Conservation Committee (ECC). Executive Assistant V William Mariga led the event on behalf of Mayor Dalipe.
The implementation of the GEMP program in the city government began in 2022, aligning with national policies promoting energy conservation. In 2020, the Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (IAEECC) issued Resolution 01, mandating all government agencies, including local government units (LGUs), to comply with GEMP guidelines. This directive tasked the Department of Energy (DOE) with conducting energy audits, spot checks, and recommending improvements to enhance energy efficiency.
Further reinforcing this initiative, Malacañang issued Administrative Order No. 15 on January 20, 2024, directing all government agencies to accelerate the implementation of GEMP measures to ensure the efficient and judicious utilization of energy.
The recognition of these four city departments highlights the city government’s dedication to responsible energy use and serves as an example for other offices to follow suit in contributing to sustainability and cost-saving efforts.
