As part of the weeklong celebration of Earth Hour 2025, divers and marine conservation enthusiasts took the plunge into the waters of Tagum’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) for an EcoDive underwater cleanup. The initiative aimed to support the local government’s efforts in preserving marine biodiversity.

Participants explored the rich underwater ecosystem of the Hijo Marine Protected Area, which reaches depths of 15 to 20 meters, and the Liboganon Marine Protected Area, with depths of up to 30 meters. Various species of fish and marine creatures were observed during the activity.

The event was made possible through the collaboration of the City Agriculture Office, Davao Gulf Divers, The Trinity Project, the Philippine Navy, and the Bureau of Fire Protection – Tagum.
Aside from the underwater cleanup, 38 participants took part in the Paddle Fest at Nabintad River, engaging in kayaking and paddleboarding while appreciating the river’s natural beauty. The activity highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and was supported by Ms. Ciara Uy-Salazar, who continues to advocate for ecological awareness and protection.
As Earth Hour 2025 approaches on March 22, organizers encourage everyone to take part in the “Lights Out” movement as a collective step towards a cleaner and more sustainable world.
Thank you to all who participated and contributed to making the planet a better place!
