Dapitan City – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) IX recently conducted a three-day seminar-workshop on the delineation of foreshore areas for Foreshore Survey and Mapping (FSM) at Bajamunde Farms, Dapitan City, from February 3 to 5. The event aimed to strengthen technical knowledge and capacity among DENR IX personnel in managing foreshore areas.
The seminar gathered technical personnel from DENR IX, including representatives from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs) of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay, as well as Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) from various areas within the region.
PENRO Cidur S. Julsadjiri, in his opening remarks, emphasized the significance of effective foreshore management and its alignment with national directives. He highlighted the need for a comprehensive inventory of foreshore occupants to ensure proper collection of occupational fees, reinforcing the government’s long-term development plans for sustainable coastal resource management.
The seminar featured expert-led discussions on the technical aspects of foreshore mapping, with key presentations from the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA). Division Chief Dennis B. Bringas and Engr. III Janer P. Sta. Ana provided insights into advanced foreshore mapping techniques. Other resource speakers included CENRO Adelaida R. Borja, Engr. II Robertson Tugade, and Stat II Robert R. Ortiz, who shared practical applications of survey methodologies.
Notable attendees included PENROs Diomides M. Pablo and George E. Laolao, along with CENRO representatives from across the region. Engr. Ramon E. Azcarraga Jr., Chief of the Survey and Mapping Division, also participated in the discussions.
The workshop underscored DENR IX’s commitment to enhancing local technical capacity in foreshore management. By equipping personnel with updated knowledge on survey and mapping techniques, the initiative supports environmental sustainability and responsible land use in coastal areas. This effort aligns with broader government strategies to safeguard the environment while promoting economic development in foreshore communities.
DENR IX continues to prioritize capacity-building initiatives that empower local offices to effectively oversee and regulate foreshore areas, ensuring the balance between development and environmental conservation.
