NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro — The Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office (DDOPPO) reaffirmed its dedication to combating child labor by participating in the Signing of the Pledge of Commitment during the Information and Service Caravan on Child Labor Prevention and Elimination at Assumption College of Nabunturan.
Represented by Police Major Marietess P. Salanguit, Chief of the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), the DDOPPO joined other government agencies in supporting the Philippine Program Against Child Labor. The initiative aligns with the implementation of International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 190, which aims to eliminate violence and harassment in the workplace.
The event underscored the necessity of a holistic approach to child and worker protection while promoting decent and quality employment opportunities for all Filipinos. Strengthening policies against child labor and workplace harassment, the stakeholders seek to create safer environments for vulnerable sectors and uphold workers’ rights through coordinated government action.
Beyond policy commitments, the caravan extended direct assistance to 100 child beneficiaries under Project Angel Tree, representing 11 municipalities in Davao de Oro. Various government agencies distributed Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials and provided free services, including haircuts, nail care, and a magic show. Additionally, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) facilitated National ID processing, while the Social Security System (SSS) and PhilHealth conducted registration for social protection programs.
Further supporting the beneficiaries, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) assisted in skills training registration. These efforts ensure that children have access to education and pathways to future employment, tackling the root causes of child labor by offering economic and educational opportunities.
The signing of the pledge marks a renewed commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and eradicating child labor in Davao de Oro. Through collaboration between law enforcement, government agencies, and the community, the province continues to advance sustainable solutions that secure children’s futures and promote a just and equitable society.
