Surigao City, Philippines – Authorities arrested Jorgeto Santisas, also known as “Datu Adlaw,” along with Lourdes Salinas (“Bae Lourdes”) and other members of their group, the Federal Tribal Government of the Philippines (FTGP), on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The arrest took place in Purok 5, Barangay Sabang, Surigao City, based on a warrant issued by Acting Presiding Judge Maureen Chua.
The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confirmed that Santisas was apprehended for usurpation of authority, among other charges. FTGP has been accused of disrupting local residents, illegally padlocking businesses, and setting up unauthorized checkpoints in the city. Police reports also indicate that the group has been demanding payments from business owners and members, citing supposed rights to ancestral land.
Authorities found 23 suspected members of the group and nine children at the site during the operation. The CIDG also identified Lourdes Infante Salinas as one of the group’s leaders.
The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) clarified that FTGP is not a recognized Indigenous People’s organization in the country. The group first gained public attention in January when complaints were filed against them for alarm and scandal after they forcibly shut down establishments.
Police have reiterated warnings against unauthorized organizations falsely claiming indigenous status to exploit communities. Documentation of the arrested individuals is ongoing, and additional charges may follow as investigations continue.
