CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A total of 87 individuals were arrested and 81 assorted firearms were confiscated across Northern Mindanao during the 100-day implementation of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban, the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) reported on Saturday.
From January 12 to April 20, 2025, PRO10 intensified its enforcement of COMELEC Resolution No. 10918, which prohibits the unauthorized carrying and transport of firearms and deadly weapons during the election period. The operations also led to the seizure of 703 rounds of ammunition.
PBGEN Jaysen C. De Guzman, Regional Director of PRO10, commended the dedication and vigilance of police personnel who manned checkpoints and conducted intelligence-driven operations across the region.
“These results underscore our commitment to ensuring a safe, secure, and credible 2025 National and Local Election. The seizure of 81 firearms and the arrest of 87 violators send a strong message that we will not tolerate any form of threat to public safety during this critical period,” De Guzman said.
He also emphasized that the ongoing operations form part of the police force’s broader security strategy to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process. De Guzman reminded the public that the gun ban will remain in effect until June 11, 2025, and encouraged citizens to comply with election-related laws and immediately report any suspicious activities to authorities.
As election-related activities intensify, PRO10 remains on full alert status and reaffirmed its commitment to uphold public safety and trust throughout the election period.
