Davao City, Davao del Sur – On January 21, 2025, law enforcement personnel from the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 11 (RACU 11), in coordination with the Davao City Provincial Cyber Response Team (DCPCRT) and Sta. Ana Police Station 1 under the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), successfully conducted an entrapment operation resulting in the apprehension of a minor involved in illegal online activities.
The minor, identified only as “Marmar,” was taken into custody for allegedly selling 300 registered SIM cards online. Authorities highlighted that the sale of registered SIM cards poses significant risks, including potential misuse for fraudulent and criminal activities. Following the operation, “Marmar” was turned over to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of DCPO to ensure appropriate intervention and care.
Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), lauded the efforts of the units involved. “The involvement of minors in cyber-related crimes is a pressing concern. This incident emphasizes the need for stronger measures to educate the youth about the consequences of illegal activities and the importance of using technology responsibly. We are committed to addressing these issues while ensuring that proper care and interventions are provided for minors in conflict with the law,” he stated.
Authorities underscored the significance of continuous collaboration among government agencies, law enforcement, and community stakeholders to curb the rising trend of cybercrimes involving minors. Efforts are underway to strengthen awareness campaigns and educational programs aimed at guiding the youth towards responsible use of technology.
