Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur – A former member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Pagadian City on January 26, 2025.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jerwin S. Cagurin, Acting Chief of the Pagadian City Police Station, identified the surrenderer as alias “Mariel,” a 31-year-old female resident of Purok Upo 2, Barangay Balintawak, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. She was listed under the Philippine National Police’s Periodic Status Report (PSR) and was formerly affiliated with the KABATAAN Partylist at the Western Mindanao State University External Studies Unit in Pagadian City. Additionally, she was part of the Regional White Area Committee of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) before deciding to return to the fold of the government.
In recognition of her surrender, Mariel received immediate cash assistance and food packs as part of the government’s reintegration efforts.
Her successful surrender was facilitated by the Pagadian City Police Station in coordination with the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Intelligence Unit, Zamboanga del Sur Maritime Police Station, PNP Aviation Security Group, Lakewood Municipal Police Station, RID9, CGIG SWM, NISU63, NISG WM9, and S2 1st CAV, ARMOR Division of the Philippine Army.
Under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Philippine National Police continues to encourage remaining CTG members and supporters to reintegrate into society through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). The initiative aims to combat insurgency and promote national unity, paving the way for a “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines).
