The body discovered floating in the Tarbing River, Barangay Rosary Heights 9, Cotabato City, late morning on January 15, has been identified by his family.
According to authorities, the victim was Alsahid Mampen Kasim, a 31-year-old tricycle driver and resident of Bagua 2 in the city. His mother confirmed his identity after being informed of the discovery. Kasim had been missing since January 10, leaving his family and community searching for answers.
Reports suggest that Kasim was last seen with three men in the downtown area near the City Plaza shortly before his disappearance.
When the body was retrieved, it was in an advanced state of decomposition and emitted a foul odor. Investigators noted visible injuries on Kasim, including wounds to the head, neck, and chest, as well as ligature marks on his wrists, suggesting he may have been tied up before his death.
Following the retrieval, the family immediately laid Kasim to rest in accordance with Islamic burial traditions.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kasim’s death. The community remains on edge as they await further developments in the case.
