The long-standing feud between two rival groups in Sitio Edzap, Barangay Lagunde, has finally come to an end following successful mediation led by the local government of Tugunan, Special Geographic Area-BARMM.
The reconciliation was spearheaded by OIC Mayor Abdullah Abas Alhadj and OIC Municipal Councilor Sabre Pandita, in collaboration with the Barangay Local Government Unit of Lagunde under the leadership of Barangay Chairman Datu Sinadatuk Karem. The resolution marks a significant step towards peace in the community.
Mayor Abas confirmed that the dispute between the groups led by Commander AbuSabaya Nando and the group of Commander Walu Bungay and Mentukan Bungay has been resolved. According to Mayor Abas, the reconciliation followed the dismissal of the Bungay brothers’ case and their subsequent release from detention. The Tugunan LGU facilitated their return to Sitio Edzap, where the reconciliation ceremony took place.
During the ceremony, both parties pledged to embrace peace and put an end to their conflict. Commander Walu, Mentukan Bungay, and Commander AbuSabaya made a public commitment to uphold harmony in their community.
The resolution has also encouraged the return of civilians who had been displaced by the conflict. Residents expressed immense joy as normalcy returned to Barangay Lagunde, marking a new chapter for the community.
This reconciliation not only symbolizes unity but also highlights the importance of local government intervention in resolving conflicts. It serves as a beacon of hope for other areas affected by similar disputes.
