Zamboanga City’s athletes have recently achieved remarkable success across various national sporting events, earning medals and accolades that highlight their talent and dedication.
Batang Pinoy Games 2024
In the Batang Pinoy Games 2024 held in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, from November 23 to 29, Team Zamboanga secured an impressive 7th place out of 177 participating teams. The young athletes brought home a total of 75 medals, consisting of 29 gold, 26 silver, and 20 bronze.
Mayor John Dalipe expressed immense pride in their performance, calling the athletes “our future Olympians” and promising the early release of monetary incentives for medalists, as mandated by city ordinance. Gold medalists will receive ₱3,000, silver medalists ₱2,000, and bronze medalists ₱1,000.
City Sports Director Dr. Cecil Atilano credited Mayor Dalipe for his unwavering support, noting the allocation of over ₱8 million for the delegation’s transportation, uniforms, footwear, and logistics. The Batang Pinoy Games is a national youth sports competition open to athletes under 15, including both students and out-of-school youth.
PNVP U21 National Volleyball Championships 2024
Team Zamboanga also emerged as champions in the men’s division of the PNVP U21 National Volleyball Championships 2024 Regional Finals. The event, hosted by the local government of Zamboanga Sibugay and held at the Sibugay Technical Institute Incorporated, showcased the team’s exceptional talent.
With this victory, the team will represent Region 9 in the National Finals. Mayor Dalipe lauded the players for bringing pride and honor to the city, encouraging them to continue their excellent work.
Muaythai National Championships 2024
The Zamboanga Muaythai team delivered another stellar performance during the 2024 Muaythai National Championships at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City from December 3 to 7. The 20-member team clinched 11 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals in this prestigious competition, showcasing their skills in the Thai martial art known as “Thai boxing.”
Mayor Dalipe and the local government commended the athletes for their dedication and hard work, emphasizing the pride and honor they bring to Zamboanga City. “Enhorabuena con el Zamboanga team por el orgullo y honor que ustedes ya lleba con la Ciudad de Zamboanga!”
