Madalum, Lanao del Sur — December 25, 2024
The Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, through its Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) led by Forester Pili M. Papandayan, and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) represented by Assistant PSWD Officer Dr. Monaima Adiong, initiated a tree-planting activity this morning in Barangay Poblacion, Municipality of Madalum. The event marked the start of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program—a government cash-for-work initiative aimed at supporting indigent communities.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office No. 10, represented by Ms. Norjannah Mangotara and Ms. Rabiha Hadji Salih. Local government officials from the Municipality of Madalum welcomed the participating agencies and beneficiaries.

Orientation and Materials Distribution

The event began with an orientation session explaining the objectives of the TUPAD program and the proper methods for planting and nurturing seedlings. The organizers also distributed essential tree-planting materials, including fruit-bearing grafted seedlings, fertilizers, tree guards, boots, shovels, and gloves. These tools will support the beneficiaries in their upcoming 10-day tree-planting activity.

Addressing Deforestation and Climate Security

The program aims to address deforestation and mitigate the risks posed by natural disasters in 12 municipalities of Lanao del Sur. It is also part of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) initiative of the Provincial Government, emphasizing the importance of climate security to protect local communities and foster sustainable development.

Support for TUPAD Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the TUPAD program will receive remuneration upon completing the 10-day activity. The initiative not only provides financial assistance but also promotes environmental stewardship among the participating communities.

A Collaborative Effort

This tree-planting activity reflects a strong collaboration among government agencies and local stakeholders to create a greener and safer Lanao del Sur. By integrating livelihood support with environmental conservation, the program underscores the province’s commitment to sustainable development and disaster resilience.
