Buadiposo Buntong, Lanao del Sur — A tragic incident unfolded on the afternoon of December 24, 2024, when a group of young students ventured offshore using a mini boat. The trip turned disastrous as waves intensified, causing the small vessel to capsize.
The accident occurred around 3:00 PM. Amidst the chaos, one student, who knew how to swim, managed to survive. A local fisherman spotted and rescued the student, who was later brought to safety.
Emergency responders immediately launched a search and rescue operation. For over two hours, teams worked tirelessly to locate the remaining students. At approximately 5:45 PM, the bodies of the victims were recovered through the concerted efforts of the Buadiposo Buntong Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) – Lanao del Sur WASAR, the Buadiposo Buntong Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) responders, and concerned citizens.
The community is now mourning the loss of these young lives. “Innalillahi Wa Ina Ilayhi Rajioun,” a phrase reflecting submission to God’s will, resonates deeply as condolences pour in for the grieving families.
