In a significant step towards peace and reintegration, seven assorted firearms were turned over to government authorities by two friends rescued (FRs) who voluntarily submitted themselves under the Task Force Balik-Loob Program. The ceremony took place at the Balay Ta Kalinaw (Halfway House), Purok-7, Poblacion, Impasugong, Bukidnon.
The turnover was spearheaded by PMAJ Romar Jones Cahucom, Chief of the Provincial Logistics Unit, under the supervision of PCOL Jovit Lontac Culaway, Bukidnon Police Provincial Office (Buk PPO) Provincial Director. The event was also attended by Ms. Rhona Pedraza Abadilla, DILG Provincial Director, and representatives from the 48th Infantry Battalion (IB) of the Philippine Army.
The Task Force Balik-Loob Program, a government initiative, aims to encourage members of armed groups to reintegrate into society by providing them with support and opportunities for a peaceful life. The program has been instrumental in fostering collaboration between law enforcement agencies, local government units, and the military to promote peace and order in conflict-affected areas.
During the event, PMAJ Cahucom emphasized the importance of the firearms turnover as a step towards reducing violence and strengthening peace efforts in the province. He lauded the courage of the FRs in choosing a path of peace and cooperation.
Ms. Abadilla highlighted the government’s commitment to assisting former rebels in rebuilding their lives through programs that provide livelihood support, skills training, and other reintegration opportunities. She reiterated that the success of these efforts relies on the sustained collaboration between various sectors and the community’s active participation.
Representatives from the 48th IB of the Philippine Army expressed their support for the FRs and reaffirmed their commitment to fostering peace and development in Bukidnon.
