Maasim, Sarangani Province – December 8, 2024

In a concerted intelligence-driven operation, the Sarangani Police Provincial Office (SPPO) and joint personnel of Maasim Municipal Police Station (MPS), along with RSOG 12, RID 12 STTA, RMFB 1204th, and SPPO-PIU, intercepted smuggled cigarettes valued at nearly PHP 3 million in Barangay Kamanga, Maasim.

The operation, carried out at Purok Molave’s shoreline, led to the recovery of fifty-five (55) cases of smuggled cigarettes. The confiscated goods included 2,441 reams of Red Royal and 300 reams of assorted brands such as New Orleans, Berlin, and VX. The total estimated market value of the recovered items amounts to PHP 2,953,500.00.

According to authorities, the suspect abandoned the cargo and fled upon sensing the approaching operatives.

The inventory of the seized items was conducted in the presence of a local elected official from Barangay Kamanga. The confiscated contraband was subsequently transported to the Maasim MPS for safekeeping and proper disposition.

An investigation is underway to identify the individuals involved in the smuggling operation. The SPPO has confirmed that charges under the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines are being prepared against the violators. Intelligence monitoring efforts continue to trace the origin and ownership of the contraband.

This successful operation underscores the Sarangani police’s commitment to combating smuggling and enforcing customs laws in the region.
