GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A routine operation by Police Station 2 of the General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) led to a significant drug bust on December 11, 2024, in Barangay Sinawal. Authorities apprehended a 43-year-old businessman and his 44-year-old wife, recovering approximately 990 grams of suspected shabu valued at an estimated ₱6.7 million.

The operation, conducted around 7:46 PM along Diversion Road, corner Yusa Ville, was led by PMAJ Carl Jayson D. Baynosa, the station commander of PS2-GSCPO. It targeted the businessman, who was wanted for a previous violation of Section 12, Article II of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002). The warrant was issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 37, 11th Judicial Region.

Upon intercepting the white Mitsubishi Estrada driven by the suspect, officers noticed suspicious items in plain view. A search of the vehicle revealed a large transparent plastic bag containing approximately 990 grams of suspected shabu. The illegal drugs, estimated to have a street value of ₱6,732,000.00, were accompanied by various paraphernalia, including an airsoft rifle (replica) with a magazine, four glass tooters, 140 glass tubes, two keypad phones, and a wallet containing ₱1,500 and identification cards.

The businessman’s wife, who was present during the operation, was also taken into custody. Both suspects were informed of their constitutional rights in their native dialect before being subjected to medical and booking procedures. They are currently detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 2-GSCPO.

The marking and inventory of the confiscated items were conducted in the presence of a Barangay Kagawad from Barangay Sinawal and a media representative from DXRG 96.7 Infinite Radio General Santos City.

Charges for violations of Sections 11 and 12 of RA 9165, as well as RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), have been filed against the suspects.

PMAJ Baynosa emphasized that this successful operation underscores the police force’s unwavering commitment to combating illegal drugs and ensuring public safety. “With every arrest and seizure, we move closer to a safer and drug-free society. Together, we remain steadfast in our mission to serve and protect,” he stated.
