Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay — December 9, 2024

In a joint operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Office, Ipil Municipal Police Station, and the 903rd Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9, authorities successfully apprehended a high-value target in a buy-bust operation conducted at Purok Malipayon, Barangay Taway, Ipil.

The operation, which took place at around 5:35 PM, led to the arrest of Rey Apolinario Alsagon, a 47-year-old resident of Purok Sunrise, Barangay Taway, Ipil. Alsagon, listed as the region’s ninth top drug personality, is single, a high school level, and unemployed.

During the operation, law enforcers confiscated four heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu. The seized illegal drugs weighed approximately 4 grams with an estimated street value of Php27,200.00. Other items recovered include gray and brown pouches, folded aluminum foils, empty transparent plastic sachets, a plastic straw used as a scooper, a barangay ID, a cellular phone, and the marked buy-bust money.

Cases for violating Sections 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) under Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, will be filed against Alsagon.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensify efforts against illegal drug activities in the region and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative in the fight against this social menace.
