Digos City, Philippines — December 19, 2024
The City Government of Digos celebrated a milestone today with the turnover ceremony of the Butchery Training Center in Barangay Tres de Mayo. This state-of-the-art facility, worth ₱2.299 million, is set to enhance the city’s butchery program by offering modular training for aspiring butchers and providing services for clients of the city slaughterhouse.
The project was funded through the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Cash Incentive awarded to Digos City in 2023. The City Engineering Office, in collaboration with the Office of the City Economic Enterprise Manager (OCEEM), spearheaded the construction.
Lolemier “Sir Lalang” Egos, OCEEM Manager, expressed pride in the project, highlighting its potential to elevate the city’s butchery standards. “This facility is a testament to our commitment to excellence, and we hope it will significantly contribute to the growth of our butchery program,” Egos said.
Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of the center in creating new opportunities. “This training center provides a conducive environment for learning and skill development. It is our goal to produce high-caliber butchers who can compete globally,” the Mayor stated.
The ceremony was graced by notable officials, including Engr. Wilson Raquel of DILG Region XI, Vice Mayor Atty. Johari Baña, and members of the 8th City Council. Also in attendance were Department Heads, Punong Barangays, City Veterinary Officer Dr. Niel Lavega, City Engineer Salvador Dumogho IV, and Assistant OCEEM Richie Germia. Special recognition was given to butchery trainers Mr. Lord Richfer Sunga and Mr. Jun Alforque for their dedication.
With this new facility, Digos City continues to solidify its reputation as a producer of world-class butchers in the Davao Region. The Butchery Training Center is expected to attract more trainees and elevate the city’s economic enterprise by meeting international standards.
As the ceremony concluded, the city’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to fostering local talent and contributing to the global workforce with skilled professionals.
