Marawi City, Lanao del Sur — The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, spearheaded the distribution of financial assistance to Former Local Insurgents (FLIs) during a ceremonial handover held today at the Capitol Gymnasium in Marawi City.
This initiative, a testament to the government’s commitment to sustainable peace, was supported by the Provincial Peace and Order Office, the Provincial Social and Welfare Development Office (PSWDO), the 103rd Infantry Brigade, and the Lanao del Sur Police.
Approximately 200 FLIs from various municipalities across the province received P45,000 each under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). This financial support aims to facilitate their reintegration into society, helping them start anew and build stable, peaceful lives.
Board Member Abdulhamid Amerbitor delivered a heartfelt message, commending the FLIs for choosing to abandon the armed struggle in favor of peace. “This brave decision is a crucial step towards unity and development. Use this assistance wisely as a foundation for a brighter future,” he urged.
Beyond financial aid, the event also included additional forms of support. The Provincial Health Office provided free medical consultations and medications, ensuring the FLIs’ well-being during their transition. Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 10 distributed wages for the FLIs’ involvement in the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program, further enhancing their livelihood opportunities.
The ceremony underscored the government’s multi-faceted approach to fostering peace and reconciliation in conflict-affected areas. Through these efforts, the former combatants are given not just resources but hope and encouragement to fully reintegrate into mainstream society.
This initiative is another milestone in Lanao del Sur’s ongoing journey toward peace, stability, and inclusive development.
