CENRO Offices Unite for National Day of Charity with Tree-Growing Initiatives Across Zamboanga Peninsula

In observance of the National Day of Charity on October 30, Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENRO) across the Zamboanga Peninsula engaged in tree-growing activities aimed at environmental conservation and community involvement. These initiatives highlighted the importance of social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and local partnerships.

In Ramon Magsaysay, CENRO, led by CENRO Dionisio B. Rago, joined forces with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), local barangay officials, and members of the Datu-Tutukan and Sigapod Watershed Farmers Associations. Together, they planted 300 indigenous Narra and Bayog seedlings in Barangays Sigapod, Midsalip, and Datu-tutukan, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur. This activity underscored the agency’s commitment to enhancing community involvement and fostering environmental awareness while encouraging locals to take an active role in ecological preservation.

Simultaneously, CENRO Imelda organized a tree-growing event at Lambuyogan Elementary School in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay. Led by CENR Officer Neneth T. Ordoño, the activity saw the planting of 20 Lumbayao (Heritiera javanica) seedlings as part of a greening initiative. Participants included Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) representatives, Lambuyogan Elementary School staff, and community volunteers. The project aimed to instill a sense of responsibility in the local community regarding the conservation and protection of natural resources.

In Zamboanga City, CENRO Zamboanga City, in partnership with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), held a community tree-distribution event at the CENRO Depository and Forest Tree Seedling Nursery in Upper Calarian. Led by CENR Officer Jaime C. Salvador, the office distributed 1,000 seedlings of various species, such as Smooth Narra, Dao, Golden Shower, Ipil, Bitaog, Lumbayao, Rattan, Mayapis, and Nato. Seedlings were distributed to representatives from the Bethany Child Development Center Incorporated School, ADZU-Ateneo Center for Environment and Sustainability, the Rotary Club, and residents from various barangays.

These activities collectively reflect the CENRO’s dedication to enhancing environmental conservation through community partnerships, emphasizing the importance of giving back to both communities and nature on this National Day of Charity.
