Honoring the Subanen Legacy
The Grand Perangat Festival goes beyond just a celebration—it’s a tribute to the rich heritage and culture of the Subanen people, the indigenous community of the region. The word “Perangat” is derived from the Subanen term “Muasenso,” symbolizing the festival’s message of progress, unity, and resilience. “Muasenso” reflects the values of striving for growth and development, which the festival aims to inspire among the people of Misamis Occidental and beyond.
From the intricate costumes to the deeply rooted choreography, each performance told a story of the Subanen’s journey, blending tradition with aspirations for a bright future. The dancers embodied these values, captivating the audience with their passion and dedication as they moved to the beat of traditional instruments and modern adaptations, celebrating the harmony between the old and the new.
