Basilan, Philippines — The Provincial Government of Basilan (PGB), under the leadership of Governor Jim Salliman, launched the “Spread the Fruit of Peace – Buwa Salam: Love in Action” initiative at Ismael Elementary School in Barangay Maligue, Isabela City. This outreach program highlighted a collaborative effort among government agencies, the military, religious organizations, and interfaith groups, aiming to foster unity and provide tangible support to the local community.
The event, themed around love and peace, was organized with the help of the 4th Special Forces Battalion, led by Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Adolf Ian Garceron; Women Interfaith Basilan, headed by Ma’am January Zanoria; Youth Interfaith Basilan, led by Ms. Feb Zanoria; and the Prelature of Basilan, represented by Sister Nellie Armate and Social Action Coordinator Ma’am Pilar Bate. Their collective efforts made the event a resounding success, benefiting 225 students and 200 parents in attendance.
Prominent figures from Basilan attended, including Ma’am Annie Datumanong Salliman, the First Lady of Basilan and spouse of Governor Salliman, Vice Mayor Kifli Salliman, and other local councilors. Their involvement underscored the administration’s commitment to peace-building and education, reinforcing the government’s dedication to uplifting the residents of Isabela City.
The “Love in Action” initiative provided attendees with a range of free services. Students and parents received complimentary haircuts, food items such as popcorn, ice cream, and arroz caldo, and hygiene kits to support personal well-being. Beyond immediate needs, the program emphasized long-term community wellness.
Women and Youth Interfaith Basilan organized activities that included storytelling sessions by Vice Mayor Kifli Salliman, a mobile library, and fun-filled games. These activities were designed to foster a love for learning, unity, and cooperation among the youth in the community.
Another highlight of the event was the distribution of seedlings and fertilizers, sponsored by Provincial Agriculture Specialist Sir Alex Cotales. This marked the launch of the F.A.I.T.H. (Food Always In The Home) Garden, an initiative led by Bishop Leo Dalmao of the Prelature of Basilan, encouraging sustainable gardening practices to support food security within families.
The “Spread the Fruit of Peace” program reflects Governor Salliman’s vision of lasting peace and progress for Basilan, built on a foundation of community collaboration, mutual respect, and sustainable development. Through programs like these, the administration envisions a future where Basilenos thrive in unity, resilience, and self-sufficiency, setting a bright path for future generations.
