Lanao del Norte, Philippines – Mark Orlando Vallecer, 51, an Acting Election Officer (EO II) assigned to Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, was killed in an ambush this afternoon in Brgy. Curva Miagao, Salvador, Lanao del Norte.
According to a police report from PCol. Salman Saad, Operations Officer, Vallecer, a resident of Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, was en route to Cagayan de Oro when he was attacked by two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle. The assailants, known as “riding-in-tandem,” approached his vehicle and fired multiple shots.
The victim was rushed to Bontilao Hospital in Maranding, Lala, but was declared dead on arrival. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The incident has drawn condemnation from officials. Comelec Region 10 Director Renato Magbutay expressed grief and outrage over the killing, calling it a heinous act that undermines public servants’ safety and democracy.
Local police have urged witnesses to come forward as they work to uncover the motive behind the ambush. The tragic death of Vallecer has sent shockwaves through the community, especially among his colleagues and family, who mourn the untimely loss.
