A temporary ceasefire has been declared between two armed groups following a firefight that erupted last night in the mountainous boundary area between Barangay Bagoenged in Datu Odin Sinsuat and Barangay B’rar in Datu Anggal Midtimbang. The clash, which started on the evening of October 15, 2024, continued into the early hours of October 16, 2024.
According to Lieutenant Col. Roy Subsuban, Chief of Police of Datu Odin Sinsuat, authorities visited the conflict area the following morning. They facilitated talks between the two groups, both of which are reportedly members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). The commanders involved were identified as Commander Udi Watamama and Commander Doy Kamsa.
The discussions proceeded smoothly, leading to a temporary ceasefire between the warring groups. The conflict stemmed from a land dispute over a 40-hectare area, which both factions claim ownership of.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as further negotiations are expected to ensure lasting peace in the area.
