CAMP GALLEGO, Tubod, Lanao del Norte – A 19-year-old member of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG), identified as alias “Abu-Jayyid/Abu-Imran,” surrendered to authorities in Lanao del Norte on the afternoon of October 4, 2024. The formal surrender was facilitated by the Lanao del Norte Provincial Police Office (LDN PPO) in coordination with various law enforcement units including the 1st and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Companies (PMFC), the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU), and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA).
The individual, a resident of Lininding, Munai, Lanao del Norte, handed over a Colt AR-15 (M16A1), originally property of the U.S. government, along with a steel magazine and nineteen live rounds of 5.56mm ammunition. Both the firearm and the surrendered individual are currently under the temporary custody of the 1st PMFC for documentation and further processing.
Provincial police officials have praised the collaborative efforts that led to the surrender, highlighting the roles played by local government officials, religious leaders, and law enforcement. The initiative is part of LDNPPO’s ongoing outreach program aimed at engaging the families of DI-MG members to encourage their surrender and reintegration into society.
“This surrender demonstrates the success of our coordinated efforts to promote peace and security in the region. We will continue our mission to weaken the influence of extremist groups while providing opportunities for those who choose to return to peaceful life,” said PCOL Roy A. Magsalay, Provincial Director of the LDN PPO.
Authorities believe that initiatives like these are critical to maintaining stability and peace in Lanao del Norte and are committed to ensuring the successful rehabilitation and reintegration of surrendering individuals.
