In a recent consultative meeting with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao Occidental and Civil Society Organization stakeholders, the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Davao Region unveiled its National Expenditure Program (NEP) for 2025. The proposed budget for Davao Occidental is set at PHP 144.2 million, an increase from last year’s allocation of PHP 137 million.
Key programs outlined in the proposed budget include the Farm to Market Road Development Program, which will receive the largest share at PHP 90 million. The Livestock Program is allocated PHP 17.83 million, followed by the Corn Program with PHP 12.81 million, and the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program at PHP 11.22 million.
Additionally, the High Value Crops Development Program, Rice Program, Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program, and the Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Program will be funded with PHP 7.03 million, PHP 2.87 million, PHP 2.29 million, and PHP 150,000 respectively.
DA-11 Regional Technical Director for Operations, Marie Ann Constatino, emphasized the importance of timely project implementation. “Projects are time-bounded, so we need to stay alert and diligent in tracking our schedules and progress. A well-defined timeline is crucial, and we must be shovel-ready,” Constatino stated. She also called for improved planning and data management to ensure the success of the region’s agricultural development.
The proposed budget is currently under review and deliberation in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Final approval is awaited before the programs can be officially rolled out.
