AFP Chief of Staff Returns to Marawi, Inspires Troops to Uphold Their Duty

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – On September 28, 2024, General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP), made a significant return to the 103rd Infantry Brigade in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, where he previously served as Brigade Commander during the historic Marawi siege.

In a heartfelt address to the troops, General Brawner emphasized the importance of preserving the hard-won gains against the Dawlah Islamiya and other terrorist groups. He asserted the necessity of neutralizing enemy presence by the end of the year, underscoring the urgent need for vigilance and proactive measures in their operations.

“Let us only obey lawful and legal orders, and follow the chain of command. Let us be loyal to our country and the constitution,” General Brawner urged the soldiers, rallying them to remain professional and dedicated to their sworn mandate to ensure the safety and security of the nation.

The following day, General Brawner visited the Marawi Ground Zero, reinforcing the Armed Forces’ commitment to the area and its residents. His visit aimed to reassure the troops of the leadership’s unwavering support for their ongoing operations, as he outlined various initiatives to bolster modernization efforts and enhance international alliances.

General Brawner’s return to Marawi symbolizes the AFP’s dedication to rebuilding the region and fostering peace after the traumatic events of the siege. His leadership serves as a source of inspiration for the troops, reminding them of their vital role in maintaining national security and upholding the rule of law.

As the AFP continues to face challenges in combatting terrorism, General Brawner’s message resonates with the troops, emphasizing the importance of unity, loyalty, and professionalism in their mission to protect the country and its people.
