Isabela City, Basilan – Vice Mayor Kifli Hataman-Salliman has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent shootout in Lanote, Isabela, which resulted in the tragic death of Army Sergeant Zulaidi Tiblani and left another individual wounded.
The incident occurred on the evening of September 18, 2024, when a confrontation between unidentified armed individuals and local security forces escalated into a shootout. Sgt. Tiblani, who was on duty at the time, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was also injured and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Extending his heartfelt condolences to Sgt. Tiblani’s family, Vice Mayor Salliman emphasized the need for clarity and justice. “The family of Sgt. Tiblani deserves clarity about what really happened. Reports have reached me that Sgt. Tiblani sustained more than 10 gunshot wounds,” he stated.
The vice mayor has instructed the local police and relevant authorities to review the events leading up to the shootout. The circumstances surrounding this incident raise significant concerns that must be addressed to ensure justice and maintain public trust.
