The search continues for Leo Tecson, a fisherman from Barangay Punta Silum, who has been missing since September 12, 2024. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Lugait Sub-station, the Fisherfolks Rescue Association, and the Barangay Council of Punta Silum, has intensified their efforts to locate Tecson.
Tecson, who is a resident of Barangay Punta Silum, set out for fishing on the afternoon of September 11 and was expected to return the following morning. However, he failed to come back as scheduled, prompting an urgent search and rescue operation.
On September 13, the first day of the operation, four fishing boats were deployed to aid in the search. Despite extensive efforts, no significant leads were found. As of September 15, the search has entered its third day, with the operation scaled up significantly.
Today’s search efforts involve additional resources from various agencies. The Philippine Coast Guard Iligan City-Lanao del Norte Station and the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office’s Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) Team have joined the operation. Volunteer fisherfolks from Barangay Punta Silum are also actively participating in the search.
The combined teams are utilizing boats and other water assets to cover a broader area and increase the chances of locating Tecson. The operation continues to be a collaborative effort, reflecting the community’s commitment to finding the missing fisherman and ensuring his safe return.
Family and friends of Tecson, deeply concerned for his safety, are hopeful that the search will yield positive results soon. The authorities remain dedicated to the mission and are working tirelessly to bring Leo Tecson back to his loved ones.
As the search and rescue operation progresses, the community is urged to stay vigilant and report any information that could assist in locating the missing fisherman. The MDRRMO and its partners appreciate the public’s support and cooperation during this critical time.
