Over PHP 1.5 Million Worth of Shabu Seized in Camiguin Buy-Bust Operation

Camiguin Province – In a significant operation led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office XIII – Regional Special Enforcement Team (RSET), a top priority drug personality in Mindanao was arrested in Barangay Cabuan, Guinsiliban, Camiguin Province, on September 18, 2024.

This joint operation, conducted in collaboration with the PDEA Regional Office X – Camiguin Provincial Office, Guinsiliban Municipal Police Station, Camiguin Provincial Intelligence Unit, and Camiguin Provincial Investigation Team, resulted in the confiscation of over PHP 1.5 million worth of suspected shabu.

The seized items included approximately 5 grams of shabu worth PHP 34,000 that was bought during the transaction and approximately 220 grams of shabu estimated at PHP 1,496,000 found in the suspect’s possession.

The arrested suspect, identified as Ruby Mapute Gerona, 40 years old, a resident of Barangay Sangay, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, is not a native of Camiguin but was operating from outside the province. She now faces charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Despite Camiguin Province being recognized as a drug-cleared province, this operation highlights the ongoing risk of illegal drugs entering the area. In response, the PDEA, in close coordination with other law enforcement units and the Local Government of Camiguin, remains vigilant, working hand in hand to protect the community and maintain Camiguin’s drug-cleared status.

This operation exemplifies the steadfast commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat the drug menace and shield the province from the dangers posed by illegal drugs. It also serves as a reminder for all barangays, municipalities, cities, and provinces that have already been declared drug-cleared to remain vigilant in maintaining their status and ensuring the safety of their constituents.
