Malabang, Lanao del Sur – Four individuals, including three male students from an Islamic school, were killed when a large tree, uprooted by strong winds, fell on them in Barangay Cabsaran, Malabang, Lanao del Sur on Friday.
The three student victims were identified as students of the Al-Falah Qur’an Learning Centre in the town. The tragic incident was confirmed on Saturday by the Ministry of Social Services and Development-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MSSD-BARMM), which promptly responded to the scene.
Three other individuals, who were also struck by the tree’s branches, were rushed to the Serapio Montañer Memorial Hospital in Malabang. They have received initial assistance from MSSD-BARMM.
Following directives from the MSSD-BARMM regional office, local staff immediately provided food and other relief supplies to the families of the four deceased victims. The ministry also pledged to assist with the burial arrangements, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
This incident underscores the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness during adverse weather conditions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
