Davao City, Philippines – The Barangay Caravan of Services (BCS) and Barangayan Serbisyo Publiko (BSP) have successfully delivered essential government services to a total of 21,381 residents across Davao City. These initiatives aim to bring government services closer to the people, particularly in the Second and Third districts for BCS and the First district for BSP.
Extensive Reach and Impact
Jimboy Panal, Technical Adviser for Community-Based Organization (Citywide) Barangay Affairs at the City Mayor’s Office, reported that 11,038 individuals have benefited from the 57 BCS events conducted from January to September 12, 2024. The BCS covers barangays such as Buhangin, Bunawan, Paquibato, Baguio, Calinan, Marilog, Toril, and Tugbok. Panal also mentioned plans to conduct 51 more BCS events before the year ends.
Comprehensive Government Services
The BCS brings at least 20 local and national government offices to the communities, with the Local Civil Registrar and the Philippine Statistics Authority being the most sought-after services. Panal encouraged barangays with scheduled BCS events to inform their residents about the available services to maximize participation.
Weekend Services for Accessibility
The BSP, held on weekends, caters to residents of the First district who may not be available during weekdays due to work or other commitments. Maida Saez, Deputy Project-in-Charge of BSP, stated that as of September 7, 2024, they have conducted 33 BSP events, serving 10,343 clients. Health services are among the most availed during these events.
Community Engagement and Future Plans
Both BCS and BSP initiatives are crucial in ensuring that government services are accessible to all residents, regardless of their location or schedule. The City Government of Davao regularly posts the BSP schedule on its official Facebook page to keep the community informed.
As these programs continue to expand, they play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for Dabawenyos by providing essential services directly to their communities.
