36IB Engages in Clash with Terrorist Group in San Miguel, Surigao del Sur

In a successful operation, the troops of the 36th Infantry “VALOR” Battalion, Philippine Army, engaged in a brief encounter with suspected remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Barangay Calatngan, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on September 6, 2024.

The 36IB, having received information from concerned residents, quickly responded to the presence of five armed men believed to be members of the dismantled Guerilla Front (DGF) 30, Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad (SRSDG) Westland. The group, led by Junrey Anub Adobo, alias “Cyrus,” the acting squad leader of the dismantled guerilla front, was encountered by the troops.

A brief encounter ensued between the troops and CTG members, lasting approximately fifteen (15) minutes. During the encounter, the soldiers recovered a high-powered firearm and a backpack containing personal belongings left behind by the fleeing armed men.

Lt. Col. Vincent M. Viray, the Commanding Officer of the 36IB, emphasized the importance of continuous combat clearing operations to maintain peace and order in the province. “Our efforts are crucial to achieving genuine peace in Surigao del Sur,” he stated.

The 36th Infantry Battalion, along with local government units (LGUs) and partner agencies, continues to support the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP). This program provides opportunities for former rebels to surrender and return to the government’s fold, offering them a chance for a better life.

The 36IB continues to call on CTG members to surrender and participate in activities that promote peace in Surigao del Sur, as part of the Philippine Army’s mission to truly serve the people and protect their rights.
