Tawi-Tawi, Philippines – In a united effort to ensure safe, fair, and peaceful elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Tawi-Tawi, led by Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Alnie A. Burahim, spearheaded a Unity Walk and Peace Covenant Signing on February 25, 2025, at 6:00 AM. The initiative was carried out in partnership with the Tawi-Tawi Police Provincial Office under the leadership of Provincial Director PCOL Rodolfo A. Inoy Jr., along with various key stakeholders.
The event commenced with a Unity Walk, where representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), PNP National Support Units, the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), religious sectors, civil society organizations, and local candidates marched together. This symbolic act demonstrated their shared commitment to upholding peace and democracy during the 2025 National and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections.
Participants concluded their march at Camp Alejandro Suarez in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, where a formal program was held. The highlight of the event was the signing of the Peace Covenant, in which all attendees pledged to uphold a violence-free election, respect the integrity of the electoral process, and promote clean and honest political participation. The covenant served as a powerful testament to the collective dedication of all involved in fostering a climate of trust and democratic engagement.
Key officials delivered messages of support, underscoring the importance of collaboration, vigilance, and adherence to the rule of law in preventing electoral fraud, intimidation, and violence.
