Lanao del Sur, Philippines – A coordinated law enforcement operation in Barangay Lubo Basara, Lumba Bayabao, Lanao del Sur, successfully led to the arrest of two wanted individuals at around 5:00 AM on February 22, 2025.
Provincial Director PCOL Robert S. Daculan of the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (LDSPPO) commended the personnel from various operating units, including the PSOG/PDEU LDSPPO, 1402nd & 1403rd RMFC, RMFB 14-A, 1st PMFC LDSPPO, PIU-LDSPPO, 5IB PA, and several municipal police stations, for their efforts in carrying out the operation.
The operation was conducted to serve a warrant of arrest against a suspect identified as alias “Jalil,” who was wanted for violating Article II Section 5 of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002). The warrant, issued by the Presiding Judge of the 12th Judicial Region, RTC Branch 8 in Marawi City, had a no-bail recommendation. Along with alias “Jalil,” another suspect identified as alias “Yam” was also arrested.
As the operatives positioned themselves for the safe execution of the warrant, the suspects became aware of their presence, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Concerned community leaders intervened, urging law enforcement to negotiate a peaceful surrender to prevent harm to children and innocent civilians inside the house. Following negotiations, the suspects ultimately surrendered without further incident.
Authorities confiscated several firearms and explosives from alias “Yam,” including:
- One (1) M16 rifle with an attached M203 grenade launcher
- One (1) improvised carbine rifle
- One (1) Molotov explosive
- One (1) black bandolier
- One (1) 40mm ammunition
- Twenty-seven (27) pieces of caliber 5.56 live ammunition
- Twenty-six (26) pieces of caliber 5.56 empty shells
- One (1) M16 magazine
- Two (2) carbine magazines
- One (1) caliber .30 magazine with eight (8) live rounds
The suspects were informed of their constitutional rights in a language they understood and were subsequently transported to the LDSPPO Provincial Headquarters for documentation. Alias “Jalil” will be processed for the return of the warrant to the issuing court, while alias “Yam” will face charges related to violations of firearm and explosives laws.
Authorities continue to intensify efforts against criminal activities in Lanao del Sur, ensuring the safety of communities and upholding the rule of law.
