COTABATO CITY — Six assorted loose long firearms were voluntarily turned over to the 6th Marine Rifle Battalion (6MRBn), strengthening ongoing efforts to prevent the proliferation and potential misuse of unregistered weapons and promote peace and security within the unit’s area of operations.

The turnover was facilitated by the 6MRBn and led by Col. Ramil B. Densing, Philippine Marine Corps, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 1st Marine Brigade.

Military officials said the activity reflects the continuing importance of cooperation among security forces, local stakeholders, and communities in addressing the presence of loose firearms, which can contribute to criminal activities, armed violence, and other threats to public safety when left outside government control.

While authorities did not immediately disclose the specific types, origins, or circumstances surrounding the turnover of the six firearms, the surrender represents another step in efforts to account for weapons circulating outside authorized channels.

The 6MRBn emphasized that sustained community engagement and stronger partnerships remain essential in encouraging the voluntary surrender of loose firearms and preventing their possible use in acts that could disrupt peace and order.

The initiative is also part of broader efforts by the Marine Battalion to maintain security and stability across its area of responsibility, particularly through cooperation with communities and other stakeholders.
