QUEZON, Bukidnon — A 30-year-old man was killed after being shot multiple times and stabbed in the neck following a violent confrontation with a 38-year-old suspect in Purok 2, Barangay Kipaypayon, Quezon, Bukidnon, on Thursday afternoon, October 1.
The victim, identified only as alias Jerson, reportedly went to the suspect’s residence while intoxicated and challenged him to an armed confrontation, escalating a dispute that had allegedly been developing since September 28.
The suspect, identified as alias Fredo, 38, and a resident of the same barangay, is now in police custody following the incident.
According to the police report, the conflict allegedly began on September 28, when Jerson reportedly harassed Fredo using a weapon. Tensions escalated further on September 30 after Fredo went to the Quezon Municipal Police Station to report that he had allegedly been beaten by Jerson’s sibling.
The situation turned deadly on October 1, shortly after 5 p.m., when Jerson allegedly arrived at Fredo’s residence under the influence of alcohol and challenged him to an armed confrontation.
Police said Jerson forcibly entered the house, prompting Fredo to fire multiple shots, allegedly in an attempt to defend himself.
However, the violence reportedly continued even after Jerson fell to the ground. Fredo allegedly approached the wounded man, took his weapon and stabbed him in the back of the neck.
Jerson was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Firearm, ammunition and knife recovered
Investigators recovered several pieces of evidence at the crime scene, including a Cobravo Ingram gun, one steel magazine, two live rounds of 9mm ammunition, one misfired 9mm cartridge case, five spent 9mm cartridge cases and one knife.
The recovered items are expected to form part of the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and stabbing.
Authorities have not provided further details regarding the specific circumstances of the alleged self-defense claim or the sequence of events leading to the stabbing.
Fredo was arrested and is temporarily detained at the lock-up cell of the Quezon Municipal Police Station as police continue their investigation.
The incident raises questions about how the earlier dispute, reported assault and subsequent confrontation escalated into a fatal encounter. Investigators will need to establish the complete circumstances of the killing, including the actions of both men during the confrontation.
