ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Authorities recovered an estimated P10 million worth of smuggled cigarettes after an abandoned boat was discovered along the shoreline of a resort in Barangay Patalon, Zamboanga City, early Wednesday morning, September 30, 2026.
Personnel of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company – Seaborne reportedly found the abandoned watercraft during their operations in the coastal area.
Upon inspection, the authorities discovered a large quantity of assorted cigarettes believed to have been smuggled into the city. The seized cigarette shipment was estimated to have a total value of approximately P10 million.
The boat was reportedly left unattended along the coast, prompting the authorities to inspect its contents. The circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the vessel, as well as the identities of the individuals who may have been responsible for transporting the cigarettes, remained under investigation.
The recovered cigarette products were placed under government custody for proper documentation, inventory and further investigation.
Authorities are expected to determine the origin and intended destination of the shipment and identify the persons behind its transportation. Investigators may also examine whether the boat was used specifically to facilitate the entry of the suspected smuggled cigarettes into Zamboanga City.
