ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A 52-year-old woman was reportedly shot along Don Toribio Street in Barangay Tetuan, Zamboanga City, on the morning of September 18, 2026, prompting authorities to launch a follow-up operation to identify and locate the alleged gunman.

The victim was identified as Rachel Cañada, 52, a resident of Barangay Tetuan. Initial information indicated that Cañada sustained gunshot wounds to her body during the incident.
According to a witness account, the shooting occurred in the morning along Don Toribio Street, where the suspect allegedly fired at the victim before fleeing the area.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed at a business establishment along Don Toribio Street reportedly captured footage of the incident. The recording is expected to form part of the ongoing police investigation as authorities work to establish the sequence of events and identify the person responsible.
Authorities were also reportedly pursuing a suspect in connection with other shooting incidents in the Tetuan area. Preliminary information mentioned an earlier shooting involving a young man along Estrada in Barangay Tetuan, as well as another reported shooting incident along Don Toribio Street.
