The Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur, through its Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (PLGU-OPAg), marked a significant milestone in championing rural women’s empowerment and sustainable development by participating in the 87th National Convention of the Rural Improvement Clubs (RIC) of the Philippines. The event, held at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel in Iloilo City, gathered representatives from 14 regions across the country, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

This year’s convention emphasized the pivotal role of rural women in tackling pressing global issues like climate change, food security, and sustainable agricultural practices. By spotlighting their contributions, the convention reinforced the importance of women-led initiatives in rural communities, particularly in driving innovations and solutions for a greener economy.
Championing Women’s Leadership in Climate Action and Food Security
The convention highlighted how rural women are at the forefront of addressing climate change impacts. Through sustainable agricultural practices and resource management, these women are transforming their communities into resilient hubs capable of withstanding environmental challenges.
Lanao del Sur’s active engagement in the discussions demonstrated its commitment to empowering its rural women to become catalysts for change. Representing BARMM, the PLGU-OPAg shared insights into how women in the region are implementing climate-smart agricultural techniques and spearheading community-driven projects that promote sustainability.
A Platform for Collaboration and Best Practices
Beyond the thematic focus on climate action, the convention served as a dynamic platform for sharing best practices. Participants exchanged innovative strategies and success stories, fostering a collaborative spirit among RIC chapters nationwide.
“By learning from each other’s experiences, we are building a stronger foundation for rural development that not only uplifts women but also ensures the sustainability of our agricultural sector,” said a representative from Lanao del Sur’s delegation.
Equipping Women for Lasting Impact
Workshops, presentations, and discussions equipped rural women with tools and knowledge to lead impactful initiatives in their localities. These sessions aimed to build their capacities in advocacy, project management, and sustainable farming practices, empowering them to play a more active role in their communities.
The camaraderie among RIC chapters further enriched the experience, creating opportunities for networking and collaboration. Delegates formed connections that are expected to lead to joint projects and initiatives, amplifying the reach and impact of RIC’s mission.
A Vision for a Sustainable Future
As the convention concluded, the strengthened commitment of RIC to sustainable development stood as a testament to the transformative power of collective action. The participation of the Lanao del Sur Provincial Government and its OPAg reinforced the region’s dedication to supporting rural women as agents of change.
The 87th National RIC Convention was more than an event—it was a movement. It underscored the essential role of rural women in shaping a sustainable future for the Philippines, proving that when women are empowered, entire communities thrive.
Through initiatives like this, Lanao del Sur continues to set an example, demonstrating how local governments can be instrumental in driving national progress, one empowered woman at a time.
