TUNGAWAN, Zamboanga Sibugay — Authorities are investigating the killing of a rubber plantation caretaker whose body was discovered stuffed inside a sack in Barangay Masao, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay, with locals suspecting that the victim may have been killed elsewhere before his remains were brought to the area and abandoned.
The victim was identified as Eduardo Ramos, an adult resident of neighboring Roseller Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Ramos’ remains were discovered on Sunday, August 9, 2026, after residents came across a white sack containing a human body in an area of Barangay Masao, also referred to locally as Langon.
Police immediately secured the area and initiated an investigation. A Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team was also expected to process the scene and examine the remains for evidence that could help establish the circumstances of the killing.
Initial information indicated that Ramos was last seen alive on Friday morning, August 7. Two days later, his body was found inside the sack, raising concerns over the possibility that he had been abducted, killed and subsequently transported to the location where he was discovered.
According to information gathered by authorities, the victim’s hands were tied, while his head showed signs of severe injuries and apparent physical abuse. The condition of the body suggested that Ramos may have suffered considerable violence before he was killed.
The manner in which his remains were found has fueled speculation among residents that the killing could have been an execution-style murder.
Some locals also believe that Ramos may have been killed in another location and that his body was only dumped in Barangay Masao afterward. However, authorities have yet to confirm this theory, and investigators are expected to determine through forensic examination and other evidence whether the killing actually occurred at the site where the body was found.
The discovery also drew the attention of Ramos’ family from Roseller Lim, who reportedly went to the area after receiving information that a body had been found. The family had earlier been searching for their relative and believed the remains could be his.
Authorities initially withheld confirmation of the victim’s identity pending proper identification procedures. Information provided by the family indicated that Ramos was believed to have been wearing dark-colored clothing and shorts when he was last seen.
The cadaver was later positively identified as Ramos.
Investigators are now working to establish a timeline of events beginning with Ramos’ disappearance on Friday morning and ending with the discovery of his remains on Sunday.
Among the key questions being examined are where Ramos was last seen, who he was with before his disappearance, where the fatal assault occurred, how his body was transported to Masao, and who was responsible for the killing.
Police are also expected to look into possible motives and examine whether the victim had previous disputes, threats or conflicts that could provide a lead in identifying the perpetrators.
The discovery of the body has caused alarm in the community, particularly because of the apparent manner of the killing and the possibility that the area may have been used as a dumping site for the remains.
The Tungawan Municipal Police Station continues to investigate the case and is working to identify and locate the suspects behind Ramos’ death.
Authorities have yet to announce any arrests or identify persons of interest in connection with the killing.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone who may have seen Ramos or noticed suspicious vehicles or individuals in the area between August 7 and August 9 to come forward and provide information that could help investigators reconstruct the victim’s final movements.
The exact circumstances surrounding Ramos’ death remain under investigation, and authorities have not yet established whether he was killed in Tungawan or elsewhere before his body was brought to the area.
