CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A 59-year-old man was arrested by authorities during an operation against an alleged illegal liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling business in Barangay Indahag on the evening of July 30, 2026, as law enforcement intensified its crackdown on activities that pose serious risks to public safety.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Jose,” is a resident of Mambuaya, Cagayan de Oro City. He was apprehended at around 6:00 p.m. during a law enforcement operation conducted at Block 8, Sitio Lomboy, Barangay Indahag.
According to investigators, the suspect was allegedly caught conducting unauthorized LPG refilling operations, an activity considered hazardous due to the potential risk of gas leaks, explosions, and fires.
Authorities said the suspect is facing charges for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 11592, or the LPG Industry Regulation Act, and Presidential Decree No. 1865, also known as the Oil Pilferage Law.
The operation was led by Police Major Jerson Soliven, Chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cagayan de Oro City Field Unit, together with CIDG operatives, as part of the agency’s continuing campaign against illegal activities that endanger lives and property.
The enforcement team was assisted by members of the Barangay Indahag Barangay Tanod, under the leadership of Punong Barangay Marlon Fidel D. Bongay Jr., who provided security and support during the operation to ensure its orderly implementation.
Authorities emphasized that illegal LPG refilling is a dangerous practice that bypasses government safety standards and regulations. Improper handling and transfer of LPG can lead to catastrophic accidents, including explosions and fires that may threaten nearby communities.
The CIDG reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against illegal LPG businesses and other unlawful activities that compromise public safety. Officials also urged the public to report unauthorized LPG refilling operations in their communities to help prevent accidents and ensure compliance with existing laws.
The arrested suspect remains under police custody while appropriate charges are being prepared against him. Investigators are also looking into the possible extent of the illegal operation and whether other individuals may have been involved.
