CABANGLASAN, Bukidnon — An 82-year-old farmer was found dead inside his home in Barangay Anlugan, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon, on Tuesday morning, July 21, after authorities discovered his decomposing body bound to a table with multiple stab wounds in what police are investigating as a possible homicide.
The victim was identified as Leon Bangot, also known as “Leo,” an 82-year-old married farmer and resident of Purok 3, Barangay Anlugan.
According to the Cabanglasan Municipal Police Station under the leadership of Police Captain Linomer Caseres, authorities received a report about the incident at around 8:00 a.m. Responding officers proceeded to the residence, where they found the victim’s body in an advanced state of decomposition.
Initial police findings revealed that the victim’s hands had been tied, and his body was secured to a table. Personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) immediately processed the crime scene to gather evidence.
Based on the initial forensic examination, investigators found that Bangot sustained 13 stab wounds—12 on the chest and one on the back—which authorities believe caused his death.
Investigators believe the victim may have been dead for several days before his body was discovered.
According to the victim’s nephew, Bangot was last seen alive on Thursday, July 16. Concerned after noticing that the elderly man had not been seen leaving his house for several days, the nephew decided to check on him. Upon entering the residence, he discovered Bangot lying lifeless on the floor, bound with a belt.
The advanced state of decomposition suggests that the victim had been dead for several days before being found.
Police are now exploring the possibility that the perpetrator was someone known to the victim, citing the apparent lack of forced entry and the circumstances surrounding the crime. However, authorities have not ruled out other angles as the investigation continues.
The victim’s family is considering subjecting the body to an autopsy to help determine the exact circumstances surrounding the killing and provide additional forensic evidence.
Authorities continue to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the motive behind the brutal attack and identify those responsible.
As of this writing, no suspects have been identified or arrested, and police are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to coordinate with the Cabanglasan Municipal Police Station.
