GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A 20-year-old laborer was found dead with multiple hacking wounds inside a covered court in Barangay Labangal, General Santos City, in the early hours of Friday, July 10, 2026, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt for the unidentified assailant.

The victim was identified as Junel Compesor, also known to some residents as “Jonel,” a resident of Panlaque, Barangay Labangal.

According to initial police and community reports, the incident occurred at around 2:00 a.m. in Purok San Roque, Barangay Labangal.

Residents recalled that at around 1:00 a.m., the victim was last seen eating pastil in Zone 5, San Roque. Just a short time later, residents were startled after hearing a loud thud from the nearby covered court.

When they rushed to check the area, they found Compesor lying motionless in a pool of blood. He had already succumbed to his injuries before responders could provide assistance.

Authorities who examined the scene found that the victim sustained two deep hacking wounds, believed to have been inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon. The severity of the injuries caused his immediate death.

The victim’s remains have since been brought to a local funeral parlor in General Santos City while investigators continue to gather evidence and interview possible witnesses.

As of this writing, the suspect remains unidentified and reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police investigators are pursuing several leads to determine both the identity of the perpetrator and the motive behind the killing.

Authorities are also reviewing available evidence and encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

The brutal killing has alarmed residents of Barangay Labangal, who are hoping for the swift identification and arrest of the suspect to bring justice to the victim and restore peace in the community.

Police assured the public that the investigation remains active and that all possible angles, including personal conflict and other potential motives, are being thoroughly examined.
