MARGOSATUBIG, Zamboanga del Sur — A 48-year-old fisherman was wounded after he was allegedly shot twice by another fisherman over an unpaid debt inside his home in Barangay Igat Island, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur, on the evening of June 27, 2026.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Garyo,” sustained gunshot wounds after the attack and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Authorities said he remains under medical care.

The suspect, identified by the alias “Danny,” 31, also a fisherman and a resident of the same barangay, fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remains at large.

According to the initial investigation conducted by the Margosatubig Municipal Police Station, the victim was inside his residence preparing food when the suspect suddenly entered and allegedly fired two shots, hitting him in the back. Police have yet to determine the caliber and type of firearm used in the attack.

Despite his injuries, the victim survived the assault and was promptly transported to the nearest medical facility by responding individuals.

Investigators revealed that the victim and the suspect had previously figured in a heated argument over an alleged unpaid debt owed by the victim to the suspect. Police are now considering the financial dispute as the primary motive behind the shooting, although they continue to investigate whether other factors may have contributed to the incident.

Following the attack, the suspect escaped toward an undetermined direction, prompting authorities to launch an intensive hot pursuit and manhunt operation to locate and arrest him.

Police have appealed to the public to immediately report any information that could lead to the suspect’s whereabouts while assuring residents that operations are ongoing to ensure his swift arrest.

The Margosatubig Municipal Police Station continues to gather additional evidence and witness statements as criminal charges are being prepared against the suspect.
