DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao del Norte — A construction worker was seriously wounded after being shot by an alleged co-worker in a brazen roadside attack on Monday morning, May 4, in Barangay Kurintem, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Eugene Hampan (also reported as Eugene Jampan), a single adult and resident of Barangay Nangi, Upi, Maguindanao del Norte.
According to the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. while Hampan was traveling on his motorcycle en route to Dalican. He was reportedly intercepted by a suspect known only by the alias “Ekit,” who is believed to be his fellow construction worker.
Without warning, the suspect allegedly opened fire, hitting Hampan in the abdomen. The bullet exited through his back, inflicting a critical but non-fatal wound.
Concerned civilians in the area immediately rushed the victim to the Dinaig District Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Authorities said Hampan is now in stable condition.
Following the attack, the suspect fled toward an unknown direction and remains at large. Police have launched a hot pursuit operation to track down and apprehend the assailant.
Investigators are currently looking into possible motives behind the shooting, including the angle of a personal dispute between the victim and the suspect. The fact that both individuals reportedly worked together is being treated as a key lead in the case.
Police also noted that the crime scene is located approximately six kilometers away from the nearest police station, which may have contributed to the suspect’s initial escape. In response, authorities are intensifying security measures in remote and underserved areas to prevent similar incidents.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement works to establish the full identity of the suspect and determine the circumstances that led to the violent attack.
